MONIQUE MARTINEZ
Bio
Monique Martinez is a graduating senior double majoring in dance and English with a minor in sustainability. Her most recent work, We're Alright, Aren't We? uses scenes from modernist literary texts to convey feelings of solitude faced by humanity in light of industrialization. She began her dance training at Patricia Penenori Dance Center in Miami, Florida, where she also taught and choreographed through her final years before graduation in 2016.
At GW, she performed in multiple student choreography works and thesis presentations as well as faculty and guest artist works, including The Currents Beneath Us by Dana Tai Soon Burgess, Stealing From Myself by Susan Rethorst, and Woman See by Maida Withers. Her four years in the dance major at GW have shaped her choreographic intentions and challenged her to produce risk-taking works.
